I have this mini pony that founders aleast once a year i keep her locked up at night when there is lost of lush grass around but it doesnt seem to work the vet say all i can do is hand feed her when there is lush grass but i was just wanted to no if there was anything esle i could do???How can i stop my mini pony from foundering?I know somebody who all they feed their horse is beet pulp because he founders so often. It keeps their weight on and isn't rich. You could try this and only let your mini graze for a limited amount each day. Hope this helps!|||There are many excellent articles found on this on the web. I think you should check out some of them. This is a serious condition which can leave your horse in a painful chronic condition. Have you done any xrays to see if the coffin bone has rotated?Once the laminae has separated from teh wall it is common and not a good sign. Your horse should be getting NO grain or anything at all with sugar which means carrots, apples etc. You will need to follow the guidlines on feeding an insulin resistant horse. Hay should be soaked for a half hour in hot or an hour in cold water to remove some of the sugar. Spring grass should be avoided completely. Any excess weight needs to go.As said go online and do the research. IT is the best way to get all the info you need. Maybe that could work with your horse.|||Basically you just need to feed them less. Monitor their weight. Founder CAN severely harm horses for the long term.
