Just wondering if I can even film with a mini SD because I don't think my computer can use firewire. And exactly how do I upload the video's? Using the included usb to min usb? Will quality change on my Canon HV20 if I use a MiniSD card apposed to a Mini DV tape?Anything recorded on flash card and Hard drive the quality is not as good as if recrded on tape. Its down to the compression.
It will be worth the effort to put a firewire card in your computer they are cheap and so easy to install.
if you use the USB cable you are getting a very poor qualilty video.
A card and cable will be around $20-30

Good luck
RRWill quality change on my Canon HV20 if I use a MiniSD card apposed to a Mini DV tape? You cannot record video to the MiniSD card on the HV20. That's only for still photos. It's tape only for video.
You must use FireWire for DV or HDV, whichever format you recorded on. Are you sure your computer can't use FireWire, at all? Remember that there are 4-pin, 6-pin, and 9-pin ports. ANY of those will work.
If you don't have a FireWire port now, are you sure there's no kind of expansion card slot on your computer? On a desktop tower, there probably is at least one. On a laptop, check for a PC/PCMCIA slot, or an ExpressCard slot. If you have EITHER of those, you can purchase and install a FireWire card. I recommend one with a 9-pin (FireWire 800) port if you can get it, it'll help in the future with things like hard drives and higher-speed devices. If you can't find a 9-pin, get one with at least a 6-pin port - they snap in better than the 4-pin ports, and you can power some devices with 6-pin FireWire. Will quality change on my Canon HV20 if I use a MiniSD card apposed to a Mini DV tape? The Canon HV20 is a miniDV tape based camcorder that can record high quality HDV format video. Read the manual. It will not record video to the memory card. Video is recorded to the miniDV tape only. The memory card is used only for stills and can be accessed using the USB connection.
To get to the video in the camcorder, you need a Firewire cable (not USB) to connect the DV port (not USB) on the camcorder to the firewire port (not USB) on your computer. You did not tell us which computer. Firewire, IEEE1394, DV and i.LINK are all the same thing.
USB will not work. USB-to-firewire cable/converter/adapter things will not work. In this case - the USB connection will get you to the memory stick used only for stills. If your computer has no firewire port, hopefully it has an available expansion slot so you can add one.
You *could* use the camcorder's AV-out connection to a USB-based analog/digital converter (see Elgato, Roxio, Pannacle - Dazzle, Hauppage... lots of others)...
With the camcorder correctly connected to the computer (above), launch the video editor in the computer and Capture or Import the video.
