That is:
- Before making a turn
- When merging with or leaving a highway
- When changing lanes on a multi-lane road
Not many people seem to be smart enough to always use them correctly these days. Are you?Are you smart enough to use your blinkers properly when driving?According to Response Insurance, a national car insurer, 42% of those drivers say they don’t have enough time, 23% admit they are just plain “lazy,” 17% don’t signal because when they do, they forget to turn it off, 12% admit they are changing lanes too frequently to bother, 11% say it is not important, 8% say they don’t signal because other drivers don’t, and perhaps most disturbing 7% say forgoing the signal “adds excitement to driving.”
The Company identified several driver-types when it comes to ignoring turn signals – Impulsive, Lazy, Forgetful, Swervers, Ostriches, Followers, and the Dare Devils.
The bottom line is that most drivers are failing to see the importance of using their turn signals.........|||I actually don't think it has anything to do with being smart. I think it has to do with whether or not you are a considerate person of if you are selfish and rude. Everyone knows when to use their blinkers. We all have to learn all of those rules to pass the written driver's exam. My theory is that since police pretty much never ever stop a person for failing to signal that means that using your signal properly is not something that people do out of fear of getting a ticket. If you use your signals properly (which I do) it is because you are a polite person who knows that it is courteous to let the other drivers know what you intend to do. It is also much safer on the road when people let the others on the road know what they are doing. Those who do not use their blinkers know that they won't get a ticket and they do not give a damn about politeness or safety. They're not dumb. They know the rules. They are simply selfish and rude. Are you smart enough to use your blinkers properly when driving? It's hard to flip the thing...I might drop my cell phone or spill my coffee.
It's not just using them, but using them appropriately.
Don't bother flipping it up if you're going to do so while turning.
I try to provide 80-100 yards (about a football field) of notice to others.|||I have come to the conclusion that many people simply don't know what that lever on the left side of the steering column is for.
Aren't you glad that brake lights are automatic and idiot proof? Are you smart enough to use your blinkers properly when driving?Do you remember my hand signals?|||Honestly, if theres nobody around me I don't use them...
